Heather A. Herrema, D.O. — Physicians in St. Petersburg, FL
Dr. Herrema grew up in Michigan where she completed all of her training. She attended the University of Michigan where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Biopsychology. She then earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following this, she went on to complete a Michigan State University affiliated internship and residency at Botsford Hospital, where she served as chief resident. After completing her residency, she completed a fellowship specializing in Movement Disorders at the Henry Ford Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Program.
Dr. Herrema treats all neurological conditions but has a special interest in Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders which includes Essential Tremor, Dystonia, Huntington’s Disease, and ataxia. She is experienced with administering Botox to help with conditions including dystonia, spasticity, hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm. In addition she evaluates and recommends patients for selection of deep brain stimulation and manages the programming following their surgery. She works with the Suncoast Medical Research Center as a clinical investigator for several medication trials. On the third Wednesday of every month, she leads a Parkinson's Disease Support group in the Central Neurology waiting room.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two daughters and husband who is an orthopedic surgeon in the area. She also enjoys running, traveling and cooking.
